About
Ty Boland-Reeves is a sculptor and photographer that was born and raised in Austin, TX. Throughout his artistic journey, Ty has embraced art as a means to explore the intricacies and fixations of how we experience the world, endeavoring to translate subconscious physiological phenomena into tangible sculptural forms.
After spending several years working as a welder and artist’s assistant, Ty felt a profound calling to deepen their artistic knowledge and made the decision to return to academia later in life to pursue an undergraduate degree in art at the University of Maryland. This pivotal step allowed Ty to refine his skills, broaden their artistic knowledge, and delve deeper into their exploration of existence and expression through art.
In the studio art departmental honors program at UMD, Ty's dedication and artistic prowess stood out, earning them recognition and admiration from both peers and faculty. Their commitment to their craft shone through in every project, as he consistently sought to challenge conventional boundaries and push the limits of his creative expression.
Beyond the academic space, Ty has been an active contributor to the art community in Wheaton, MD. As a committee member of the Contemporary Art Purchasing Program, they played a vital role in supporting local emerging artists and promoting a thriving art scene. Ty's additional involvement as a selection committee member of the Wheaton Art and Walkability Program demonstrated their dedication to making art more accessible to the community and encouraging public engagement with art and artisans.
Ty's sculptures are not just mere representations but embodiments of emotions, thoughts, and the complexities that define our physical experiences in the world. Through careful craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail, Ty brings life to their works, eliciting emotions and prompting contemplation in those who encounter them.
As an artist, Ty aims to create a dialogue between the physical and emotional realms, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own experiences and perceptions of the world. By exploring the intangible aspects of the human psyche and translating them into tangible sculptures, Ty creates a unique connection between art and audience, blurring the lines between the seen and the felt.
